Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using Disposable Secret. By creating or viewing a secret, you agree to be bound by them.

1. The service

Disposable Secret provides a one-time secret sharing service. When you create a secret, an encrypted message is stored temporarily on our servers and permanently deleted after it is viewed once or after 24 hours, whichever occurs first. The service is provided free of charge and on an as-is basis.

2. Acceptable use

You may use this service only for lawful purposes. You must not use it to store, transmit, or distribute content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, threatening, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable. You must not use it for phishing, fraud, harassment, or any activity that violates applicable law or regulation. You are solely responsible for the content of any secret you create and for sharing its link responsibly.

We reserve the right to block or restrict access to the service at any time, without notice, if we have reasonable grounds to believe these terms are being violated.

3. Data handling

All secrets are encrypted in your browser before they reach our servers. We do not hold decryption keys for user secrets and cannot read the content of any secret. Secrets are permanently deleted after their first view or upon expiry. We do not inspect, sell, or share your data. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

4. No guarantees of availability

We aim to maintain a reliable and continuous service but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or that any particular secret will be delivered or remain available for any given period. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time and without prior notice, including the permanent withdrawal of the service.

5. Limitation of liability

Disposable Secret is provided without any warranty, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service is secure, error-free, or free from harmful components.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, this service. This includes but is not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of business, or any unauthorised access to or disclosure of information transmitted through the service, whether caused by negligence, breach of contract, or otherwise.

You use this service entirely at your own risk. You are responsible for assessing whether it is appropriate for the sensitivity of the information you intend to share.

6. Encryption and passphrase responsibility

Secrets are encrypted using AES-256-GCM. The decryption key is generated in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers. No online service can guarantee absolute security and you acknowledge this when using the service.

If you use the passphrase option, the encryption key is derived from your passphrase entirely within your browser. We do not have access to your passphrase. If it is lost or forgotten, the secret cannot be recovered by us or by anyone else under any circumstances.

7. Intellectual property

The Disposable Secret name, logo, and website design are the property of their respective owner. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or redistribute any part of the service or its content without express written permission.

8. Accounts and termination

If you register for an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms. On termination, your account data and any active secrets will be deleted.

9. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. You irrevocably agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these terms or your use of the service.

The service is operated from the United Kingdom. We make no representation that it is appropriate or available for use in other jurisdictions. If you access the service from outside the UK, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for compliance with local law.

10. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms at any time by updating this page. Continued use of the service following any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. We recommend checking this page periodically.
